Every week day. Everyone to skis!

After School Skiing is fun and challenging. This is how we go about it.

The mission of After School Skiing is to provide programs which enable urban youth to achieve proficiency in roller skiing technique while developing positive and progressive character habits. Understanding the concepts of life long transport sports are stressed via the slow and safe adaptation to load and skill sets.
We recreate, we commute. We make the planet proud. These are our mantras. We become our own epic and we never imagine that winning a ski race is ever going to save the planet. We save the planet by first understanding how to become the motor ourselves and dedicate to a lifestyle focusing our leisure time spent socializing and practicing roller ski and all the transport sports above conspicuous consumption in a more sustainable social design.
The continued development and improvement of all our athletes through commitment and challenge is how we approach everything we do.
By fostering an environment of mutual respect and integrity our goal is to help create a social design where by the love of roller skiing takes hold thoroughly enough so our students can speak the kinetics of skiing on wheels or snow well into college and through out their adult lives no matter where they reside longitudinally on the planet. Snow or wheels they will be happy skiing for may years.
We see only cross country skiing kinetics. We do not differentiate between wheels or snow. Great roller skiers make amazing snow skiers. Snow skiing takes care of itself when the opportunity arrises.
Our Objectives and Commitments
  • To learn to the inner most level, and to achieve to the best of our individual and collective abilities, to foster an environment of mutual respect, integrity and enthusiasm for hard work. The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.
  • To commit as much time and effort to our learning and helping to teach students behind us as much as possible without compromising our school work, our health or our social life.
  • Skiing can be practiced alone, right out the door, the success of community members is of equal importance to us. Community development depends on the integrity of all students. We all share  in the successes and failures of each single community member.
  • It must be understood that each student member represents the community of NYC skiers as a whole. We are NYC citizens and will all need to share the paths, streets and park spaces by always giving right of way to those in front of us and never breaking our lines without indication. We understand our coaches, both as individuals and as a staff, are responsible for overseeing our commitment to these policies. We agree to sign a letter of dedication and commitment to represent roller skiing in the NYC area at the highest levels of respect and abide to all traffic and city park regulations.
Our Requirements
Commitment to safety is number one.  Commitment to fun is number two. When we have fun, challenge becomes joy and mastery  becomes reward. Roller skiing develops self reliance. Ultimately our inner voice, absent our coach, will need to continuously drive our safety,  technique and developing stamina. When all these triangulate as a cohesive motor the fun factory never stops.
Roller skiing poses several requirements for participating athletes, these include the study or two skiing techniques classic and skate ski. We begin everyone with ski bounding and SpikeBoarding ( a simplified form of Roller Skiing permitting  your feet not be bound to the ski)  then move on to the skate skiing style.
Roller skiing requires mastery of skiing over a variation in terrain including flats or undulating sections, downhill sections and multiple uphill sections. A reference to downhill skill sent should be mentioned now. Downhill in roller ski shares very little with downhill ski racers do.  Roller ski practice maintains speeds below 30 mph. If a hill develops speeds above this, we do not use the hill for descending.
Roller skiing is a sport requiring proficiency in a wide variety of areas including training, technique, nutrition and health. Will, passion and commitment are nurtured very well with participation in the sport, they develop automatically when fun is engaging and the athlete takes the language movement skills as their own.
Our coaches balance individual needs with the level of each group we form and put the youth into.
You need NOT keep up with advanced groups with faster speeds. Each athlete progresses at their own pace.
